How to Play Sudoku: The Basics

- Every Row: Must contain the digits 1-9 exactly once.
- Every Column: Must contain the digits 1-9 exactly once.
- Every 3x3 Box: Must contain the digits 1-9 exactly once.
It sounds simple, but the trick is to use the numbers already present to deduce where the missing numbers must go. Look for rows, columns, or 3x3 boxes that are almost complete, as these often reveal the next number.

Alright, Puzzle Heads, let's talk about a super helpful Sudoku strategy: the 'Hidden Single'. This is a step up from simply looking for 'naked singles' (cells where only one number can possibly go). A 'Hidden Single' occurs when a specific number can only go into one cell within a particular row, column, or 3x3 box, even if that cell could *also* theoretically hold other numbers.
Here's how to spot it:
- Pick a number (1-9) and a region (row, column, or 3x3 box) to focus on. Let's say you're looking for the number '7' in the top-left 3x3 box.
- Scan the chosen region for existing instances of that number. If '7' is already in that box, move on to another number or region.
- Now, for each empty cell in that region, check if it can *potentially* hold your chosen number. Use the process of elimination: look at the numbers already present in the cell's row and column.
- If you find that your chosen number can only fit into ONE specific empty cell within that entire region (row, column, or 3x3 box), then you've found a Hidden Single! Even if that cell could also theoretically be a '3' or a '5', if it's the ONLY place the '7' can go in that specific region, then it *must* be a '7'.
